Nemesis teetered on the stepladder, hanging the last bit of lights and tinsel and ornaments to the grand tree she had had Marus chop down and steal from a neighbors yard. It was the perfect size, not to big, not too small. Just right for the small family known as the Mahorelas. AdaMaS, Nemesis, AdaMaS Childer Renovate and of course the small demon servant Marus.
On the mantle above the fireplace hung stockings labeled for each. Within AdaMaS’ stocking Nemesis placed small trinkets from around the world, including some rare finds in daggers. She also placed within a beautiful pen set, so that he would always remember to write her more often when he had to be away.
Within Renovates stocking she placed candies. All sorts of liquor filled candies, along with a few small bottles of select alcoholic beverages.
Marus’ stocking contained items that human children clamored for. Nintendo DS games, candy, and a half eaten apple. OK, most children do not get a half eaten apple, but they should all receive the heart of a deer, which Nemesis provided for Marus, allowing it to rot a little for the stinker of a servant. It was a delicacy for him, and she was sure he would love it.
Nemesis had made a point to create a stocking for Mr. Bun, she had Marus deliver it to LadyFae's and nitenurse's Solas Gealaí Caisleán for her little zombie bunny. It contained candied bugs and special salamanders and lizards..all her little bunnies favorite treats. She hoped he would come home and visit her on Christmas.
Under the Christmas tree where several items. The largest was marked for AdaMaS. A new set of armor, a different look for him rather than his old scaled dragon armor. This was smooth, with dragon etchings rather than rough surfaces. And a sword. Nemesis had had it commissioned when she took her own little trip recently. IT was beautiful, and if it hadn’t been so big, Nemesis pondered keeping it for herself, even if she was not to type to carry weapons such as swords and daggers.
For Reno, there were gifts of clothing and jewels. What every girl wants. And a special locket made just for her to place pictures in.
Mr. Bun had a few gifts as well. A new backpack for one, and some extra ears and tails. Items he lost sometimes when outside playing in the graveyards.
Marus again would turn any child green with envy. Nemesis had ordered him an Xbox360 and a Wii including a variety of games. He also received a suit that resembled that of a butler, more as a joke, but Nemesis was damned if she wasn’t going to get him to wear it and wait on her just once. IT was his duty after all.
Nemesis stocking hung almost empty. She did buy herself a locket resembling Reno’s, which she wrapped and dropped into the stocking.
Nemesis looked at the grandfather clock by the door. Marus should have been back hours ago. She had sent him out to collect Mistletoe and Holly. How hard of a task could that be?
Just as if he had been reading her mind, the door burst open and in walked the gray skinned little demon. He looked almost cute. Unlike Nemesis, Marus could feel the affects of the weather outside, and had to dress accordingly. This meant a parka, snow pants, scarf and gloves. Being from Hell, the poor demon craved heat. He looked like a really ugly and cold child.
He tossed something green and red at Nemesis. “Here’s your mistletoe. That was easy to find.” He said matter of factly.
“Well, holly isn’t hard to find either, gimme you lil stinkball.” Marus blinked at her as if she were from another planet all together for his voice raised an octave. “Not hard to find? Are you kidding me, it took forever. So much waiting, so much watching, then I had to move in at just the right moment. Then there was the struggle…I left it outside on the porch, you can do with it what you want, stupid holiday cheer woman. Hey, there’s gifts here for me?!” Marus rant went away as newfound fascination crept into his voice that Nemesis actually got him presents. She turned and grabbed him by his parka. “What do you mean ‘struggle’…where did you steal the holly from? Sheesh, I didn’t need that much of it, just a little red and green sprig of it here and there….” Again, Marus looked at Nemesis as if she were from another planet. “You said you wanted to deck the halls with Holly. I got you Holly…now lemme go.”
Nemesis looked out on the front porch to find plenty of red. A pile of intestines lay in a heap staring up at her. She slapped a hand to her forehead before closing the door.
“You get back out there and feed that mess to the wolves….” Nemesis pinched the bridge of her nose and laughed. She turned to Marus and gave him a small kick. “So you spend all night looking for some broad named Holly. You moron…its deck the halls with BOUGHS of Holly…..not BOWELS of Holly.”
Ah, Christmas…the time of year when demons don’t have a clue as to what song lyrics mean.
