Personal History
Some eerie, deep-seated inner torment drew Kathryn Rose Chaumette-Vinson out to her lush well-tended rose garden that night. She often enjoyed going there late in the evenings after tucking her 3-year-old son into bed. It didn’t matter that she usually couldn’t see the roses well in the darkness. The smell of them and the sounds of night around her were enough to enjoy.
That particular night, the moon was full with a lunar halo, an ice ring encircling it. She had heard the superstitions involving this sight with the bringing of bad luck, but she was not a superstitious woman. Instead, she stood there in the cool December night looking up at the glowing orb, admiring its warm cool glow. It was so luminous that she could see shadows from various objects in her garden; trees, garden statuary, shrubs, the shadows seemed to dance in the light breeze.
Decembers in central Texas were typically mild, so it was easy enough for her to be outside in a simple gray sweater, jeans, and black boots that made her about three inches taller than her usual 5’2” stature. She hugged her arms to herself as she stood there.
Moments later, she heard a loud raucous coming from inside her home. Being uncharacteristic at this late hour, she made her way through the courtyard and into her home. The interior was vast and well lit. She saw nothing out of place at first. Sounds of something crashing and screaming immediately sent her sailing for the stairs, her heart pounding in her chest.
Kathryn knew something was very wrong.
Arriving at the top of the stairs, she paused, waiting to see what else she might hear. One final, faint noise came from her bedroom. She ran as fast as her legs would carry her down the long hall and to the last room. She came to a dead stop at what she saw, her jaw falling, her knees giving out as she fell to the floor.
Her husband and son had been murdered.
It appeared that her husband had been murdered first, and then her son had walked in on it. For whatever reason, that seemed to trouble her even more, that he had been frightened in the final moments of his short life. She crawled over to their lifeless bodies. There was blood on the floor, and the entire room was in utter disarray. She pulled their bloodied bodies into her arms. Feeling that they seemed to weigh less than normal, that was when she noticed the puncture wounds at their necks. It looked like… but it couldn’t be… vampires? She didn’t believe in such mythical creatures. She gingerly touched the wound on her son’s neck. Something had clearly bit him, something large, predatory, and deadly.
She gave little thought to the fact that she, herself, could be in danger, until she heard a noise behind her. Kathryn had just enough time to turn at the sound before she was thrown violently backwards. It appeared to be a man, but not a man.
A vampire.
She did her best to struggle against the much stronger, much larger form, until at last; he gained hold of her neck. She continued to fight against him, and as his hand came up towards her face, she bit him. Hard. She felt the sickly sweet taste of his blood in her mouth, but she didn’t let up. He had murdered her family, and she wasn’t going to let him get away with it. Her human teeth were clearly no match for his, but she knew that if she pulled and tugged at him with her mouth, that she could do some real damage. As his blood trickled down her throat, she forced back gags and kept tearing into his flesh. As Kathryn continued to feel him at her neck, she felt herself growing faint, tired. She reluctantly released her savage hold on him as the room around her became a hazy blur. The last thing she saw was the face of the nameless vampire, as she heard him say to her, “I’m so terribly sorry.”
One month later...
She had come to this city to start fresh, anew. She left her name behind her, choosing instead, to be called simply, Katastrophe. New faces were everywhere, and she had met many, but there were still many, many more that she had not yet had the pleasure of meeting. But right now, none of this was important to her.
She sought out the vampire responsible for her family’s death.
His voice resonated in her mind. One sound from his mouth would tell her she had the one responsible. She would have her revenge. She had heard rumors of someone who had done business with her husband.

Sires:King Lestat 01/21/2008 - 06/28/2008: She owes him a great deal of what she now knows about the inner workings of the city. He taught her more than any other sire can and will ever be able to teach her. King Lestat was then partner-bound to Inu. His childer consisted of EmpressLizard and Deylin and eventually RemipunX. Inu's childer consisted of Frozen Nova and Trig. Katastrophe's grandsire was Murrz Ramirez.
Acheron (then known as Gevurah) 08/03/2008 - 09/17/2008: A short-lived siring, this taught Katastrophe to be more careful when choosing a sire in the future and not to be taken in by the grandeur of what it meant to be taken in by a pire whose childer and grandchilder were numerous, so numerous, in fact, that she's not even sure how she was related to many of them. Gevurah was a master vampire and was partner-bound to starreagle. The childer they had between the two of them that Katastrophe considered close were Eternal Bug and FIoura.
Seyda 09/24/2008 - present: Probably the sire that she most definitely belongs with. She's most happy in a large family, though Katastrophe finds the enormity of it daunting when she hears she's related to someone and has to figure out how. She finds Seyda to be both intelligent and quick-witted, often keeping Katastrophe on her toes. It's funny to her to think of how she once thought her sire to be a bitch. She might be, but she loves her anyway and couldn't be more proud to be her childe.
Childer:Mordia 07/14/2008 - present: Her first and most quiet childe, Mordia is still working on getting all her powers. She might be quiet to most, but she's a hard worker and makes Katastrophe proud.
Moodlady 12/29/2008 - present: Moody's been through some tough times and she's still really trying to bounce back from them. Katastrophe doesn't know a lot of what that is, but she tries to be understanding and there for Moody when she needs her. Moody is also a quiet one, but not as quiet as Mordia. Katastrophe was thrilled when Moody chose her as her sire.
Lascivious 01/27/2009 - present: Lascivious is very special to Katastrophe. Previously, Lascivious was the sister of Katastrophe's one time husband, Arias, both having been sired by HerGlowingEyes. Lascivious made the difficult decision to leave her sire and eventually made it known that she wanted Katastrophe to sire her. Katastrophe is truly honored to call Lasc a member of her family.
Demitri Shadow 04/02/2009 - present: It's a boy! Katastrophe was floored when Demitri told her he wished for her to be his sire. They hadn't known each other long and they are still learning more about each other as time goes on. He's quiet and wishes for a very private existence. This is a struggle for them given Katastrophe's bubbly personality and outspoken ways.
Clans:Scions of the Phoenix 02/08/2008 - 07/15/2008: Katastrophe's first clan. She joined to be with her then sire, Lestat. She learned a great deal, including gaining her first experience in battle with the D'dary. After she requested Lestat to sever her due to huge family changes he was making, she left Scions.
Ordo Illuminati 07/19/2008 - 09/08/2008: After leaving Scions, she was a bit disenchanted when it came to clans, but was invited to visit OI and was completely overwhelmed by the warm welcome she received. It was that welcome that compelled her to stay. She eventually took Gevurah (Acheron) as her sire.
Ventrue 09/08/2008 - 11/?/2008: Ventrue was originally started as an offshoot of Ordo Illuminati. Basically, Katastrophe was more or less forced to leave OI with her sire to help form Ventrue. Katastrophe was immediately taken in by her new position of power as a leader, but the clan was small and not growing quickly. Her sire severed her over what she saw as a trivial matter and she was more or less dissatisfied and left. As it is currently led by Bug, her former brother, she holds them in high esteem and would quickly recommend them to anyone looking for a clan.
Yggdrasil 01/08/2009 - present: Initially joining because of her sire and because she liked the leadership, she was excited to find there was more behind those walls than just that. Beyond that, "The first rule of Yggdrasil is don't talk about Yggdrasil."
