Ok, so the whole purpose that this board was made in the first place was to fill a need, the need for a centralized place for us to RP our characters. We do, of course, have a few mediums for which to stretch our writing skills. We have the chats, which can be used for short hand RP and chat, we have the papers, which allow us to participate in conversational RP, and we even have a smattering of boards and yahoo groups that can be used for RP as well. However, it has been proposed that the large number of places to RP has actually been detrimental to the RP. The question posed then is this; will a centralized place to RP be helpful for us, not just as writers, but also as a writing community; and is it too late, or can the RP that is so precious to our society be saved?

*makes strangled motions and choking sounds at the mention of the chats for RP* Okay, now seriously? RBCR is a good one, but it seems too... cliquey? I had an open RP there for a while that no one responded to until I did some begging, and then it died a horrible death. I hope to see this be something similar to Bite where many can congregate and RP. So yes, I believe it can be saved! *Waves around a 'Save the RP' banner*

It's funny, actually. I've been saying it for years, but it finally seems that people have started agreeing... The amount of 'formal' RP started to decline when the chats were introduced. And that made me very sad.

That and people have started to separate themselves from the rest of society and rp on their own. That's what I know myself and a few others have done. We just didn't want the drama or others peering over our shoulders bitching about the smallest things. It's a bit of a downer.

I think it can. I know I've only been here a year but the only reason I stuck around for awhile is the RPing. I'm in the chats all the time. Yes it gets horrible but my close friends and I can usually manage to get a strong LARP going. If anything, we stalk off to a private room. I'm not a huge fan of y!m-rping. It just..I don't know. And the yahoo groups..ugh. No thank you.
I haven't really gotten into public RPboards before this one, I'm not that strong of a writer and I'm honestly nervous about it. I read everyone's RP's and I'm just like.."Nope. Not going to make a fool of myself" so I stick to the more private boards, like Blairs VCS for a loooooooooong time.

I am not a huge fan of the chats mainly because they promote a lot of crossing. I've seen some of the experienced players who have been around for three or longer years in the chats accidentally crossing back and forth between IC and OOC. While I understand that the chats are a fun place to spend time, I don't think that they really promote a strong RP atmosphere. The Yahoo groups are good for keeping up with RP, but I'm not fond of the e-mail messages, the lack of aesthetic appeal, and overall I just feel limited with them. The other RP forums, while they have many members and such, as Kat said, seem to be rather cliquish, and the barriers for getting into a group are very high unless you know someone on the inside from an OOC standpoint.
One of the things that I like about a central RP forum is that it gives players a chance to not only RP, but also get closer to their RP community on an OOC level. I've been saying for months that I think we need something like this, but...I'm horribly lazy >.> Then Ash came along and was all "Hey, we need an RP forum" and it went from there. I would like to see this forum flourish, and to do that, we need a lot of regular Rp. I think that it is of the utmost importance to us that we have RP. Eventually, I would like to see a forum put on the RB mainpage, linked in like the chats.

Jesus. A RB main page forum would be amazing. I think it would help a LOT of people with getting started with the game and such. I've noticed that most people when they join RB, just become chat-rats because they don't really know what to DO in the City, even with the FAQ and stuff. Most all of Tally's friends didn't really get involved in the game game until someone explained it, got them sired, and things like that. I know its how it happened with me.

I know exactly what you mean, I've been in RB for about two years, but greater than six months of that I spent building a ghetto-pire. He literally had zero powers the entire time. It was not until I got a character under a "citypire" that I really started to learn about the game. The truth is that the game isn't all that hard to figure out when you have the right resources, however that's not the only thing that this forum provides. Eventually it will be equip with some things to help people get more into the RP. >.> I'm just excited to see things working out,and I want to keep the RP strong.

And hence the reason for the sitting for hours on end waiting for decent chat noobs to come out of the woodwork so they can be molded into the lovely drama filled players we see today.
*breathes in that new character scent*

I honestly have Blair, Jamie (Jaida), and Sara (Kiya) to thank for Tally actually getting to step through that threshold of being chat-rat to City Piress.
Blair collects chat-noobs. Its like..her hobby
Back back to the RP-ness. I really think this board is going to do wonders, once more people find it and things start rolling. I've been lamely trying to encourage myself to start a new thread or get the guts up to reply to someone's. *ish lame*

I think the chats took away from traditional RP, giving way for alot of crossing, powerplaying and people who just couldnt grasp that there were places to actually write narrative RP stories. i also think the newspapers have taken away from RP as well. Sure, they are a form of RP, conversational RP, but they still take away from storytelling. However, look at how many of these forums are popping up...I mod on several, own one...so there IS RP out there, its just moved from all the old places and scattered about.

I think I'm in love with you in this moment, Beth, because I agree more than one-hundred percent with you. I've pretty-much avoided RB for the exact reasons that you named. I don't really view it as having a strong RP community, but that's just been my personal experiences with it.
