“Much better. Now what do you want? Haven’t you tormented me enough Sitt al-Sirr? Your fun is over. I’m not interested in playing your games any longer.” Persephone chastises the demoness. Her patience has run thin and she just wants to get home as soon as possible. Thinking through the words He had spoken to her before casting her into this journey she decides the only way to return home is to return to where she had called her home when she had dwelled here. She knew it to be in the center of the tunnels, paths, and corridors that made up the mazes.
Persephone watches the interchange between herself and her confident and shakes her head slowly knowing that Sitt al-Sirr was torn between both masters and would never be entirely loyal to either.
Sitt al-Sirr looks at pers sadness in her eyes. “I never meant to hurt you my Queen. I had no choice HE is in control now. We have to obey him or else…well I won’t go into that. Time is of the essence persephone that is what you are called now? I want to help you. HE hasn’t forbid me offering you assistance and until he does I will continue to do what I can. You still have power here; you just have to remember how to use it. You have power over him but that same power HE has over you. Could you not see the pain billowing in his eyes as you lay bound? Just as you made it in the beginning, I feel you pain, as does HE.”
persephone listens silently, unsure whether to believer her or not. She had once been pers most trusted advisor, dearest friend. Would she betray her? Could she even? Taking a deep breath pers wraps her arms around the trembling woman and speaks comfortingly.
“Sitt al-Sirr do not allow yourself to be overcome. I believe you. I will listen to you counsel. Though I feel it unwise to stay with me at all times. I feel this is something I must for the majority do on my own.”
“Yes this is true Mistress persephone. Do you remember the old man? I believe he tried to contact you, did he manage to do so?”
“Yes, we spoke briefly. He brought me much hope and comfort.”
“Do you remember the vision he gave you? You must find that place he showed you. That is the first place where you can begin to free yourself; though we shall miss you. You meant everything to us. When you left, HE destroyed us all. He keeps saying you did all of this. It was him, not you. He took out his sorrows, his frustration, and his anger upon us; as he could not seem to reach you. “
pers could see the pain in her face and wanted so badly to remove it, to take away all of the pain in this place. Was it possible? Could she? It would mean she had to stay here, forever…She would never see Master or her clan, again. Her heart heavy persephone starts walking again.
She speaks “Ok so I have to find a beautiful green area? Sounds simple enough. Can you tell me what direction? Am I headed the right way?”
The woman fades away as if summoned elsewhere and pers is left alone again to walk the lonely tunnel. Realizing she is alone once more Persephone sighs.
"Well I knew it couldn't last very long. But first thing is I have to reach the end of the tunnel."
She starts walking faster and ends up in a strong jog. She can see the light growing stronger and can feel its heat. The light seems to be growing brighter. She can feel it's warmth and wonders if it is safe. She closes her fist and the flame goes out. She can hear
voices, small children's voices. She slows down her jog as she reaches the end of the tunnel, it seems to be slanting upwards and it takes more energy to climb. She can feel the air getting thinner as well. The light seems to be a floating oval at the end of the tunnel. She breaks out into a full run and *Thud * she screams in pain.
She longs to stop herself from going down the hallway, knowing the children who would betray her yet she knew it would be to no avail. She had tried with Joseph and no good had truly come of it. She didn’t know if he had truly felt her presence or not.
Her scream fades and has a strange echo to it. She can feel her body being dragged to the ground, free-falling. The wind, though its warmth feels good against her chilled skin, whips around her body lashing at her like a thousand bullwhips at the master's hand
against the unrepentant servant. Pers begins to panic, how far down would she fall? What would she meet on the ground? The tunnel was to small for her to properly take flight although if she let out her wings slightly then it may slow her fall.
persephone concentrates on allowing her black feathered wings to only partially open, just enough to create a parachute effect and she can feel the friction against the air they create. The wind no longer whips at her face and she tries to see how far down the chute goes. There doesn't seem to be an end. persephone reaches out trying to grasp at the smooth sides of the walls. Her nails claw at the smooth surface, the sound is not unlike the screams of rabbits. She suddenly sees the ground rushing at her, a dirt landing. She braces herself for the impact and lands on one foot and one knee against the ground. The impact sends waves of energy like ripples throughout the room, and pers can hear the waves hit against others in the room. They seem to be short creatures and she stands to her full height.
"Hello?" she says in forced soothing tones.
She is returned with giggles and the sound of little footsteps scurrying about on the dirt floor. She can smell something it seems almost like fresh air.
"Hello Persephone." A small demure childlike voice replies and a young girl perhaps nine years old seems to just appear into the patch of light before her. Persephone looks down at the girl, not recognizing her in the slightest, yet still wishing to remain on good terms with her, she smiles warmly.
"Hello child, would you care to tell me where I have landed?"
"Oh well" *giggles*, "you're in the garden patch ma’am."
*giggles* "your silly looking you know that? You've got pointy teeth!"
pers can hear more giggles surrounding her and she turns around, more and more childlike beings entering the light. pers eyes widen as she sees them all, their faces are not natural colors instead they are pale purples, yellows, reds, and blues. They look like china dolls to fragile to touch, yet with such an irresistible pull.
"Yes I do have point teeth." pers replies with a smile.
She pulls her wings back in and two of the childlike beings take her hands in theirs and guide her along, skipping. Their presence seems to carry the light with them, and the path grows grassy after the tender touch of their feet. She notices the once bare stone walls are strung with ever increasing amounts of ivy. Her hands still held by the children she continues on, willingly following their guidance. The light increases and she begins to worry whether it will harm her.
" Light is not a good sign, although she did say I had to find the garden." persephone silently contemplates as the children chatter amongst themselves about her pointy teeth and long sharp fingernails. pers looks at the walls, not only are they now covered in ivy but she sees only green, and the occasional brown. She can feel their elevation growing, and can smell the scent of pines. The walls are no longer made of stone, instead they are now made of hedging. Upon the realization of this pers stops in her tracks, and holds her ground as the children pull her forward.
"Where are you taking me?" she asks suddenly full of suspicion.
"To the castle of course. Isn't that where you wanted to go? It's where we were told to take you. We are taking you the shortest route persephone. Through the garden." the small boy on her left replies in a sing-song voice.
She looks into his eyes, and can see no lie in them so follows willingly again. She begins to see patches of flowers, nicely kept, very much in contrast to the cold stone tunnels she had left. The air was sweet with the scent of fresh blooms and she could smell something familiar...what was it? The scent was sweet, yet fierce and biter.
They came to the center of a courtyard and in the exact middle of all 7 paths that led to it was a magnificent black magic rose in a black urn. The blooms over flowed on the bush and she dropped the hands that held hers drawn to the roses. She loved these roses, and tears came to her eyes. Yes this was her garden, and he had kept it for her. She knew these paths; she had walked them many a lonely day and midsummer's night. She took one of the roses into her hand. The scent carried her into a dream like state within her dream, the world around her began to fade away and blood dripped onto her hand. Though she didn't seem to notice, the children did and smiled slyly at one another. They were taking her to the castle alright but not for the reason she wanted to be there. They were taking her to HIM, he could not summon her himself but if she came willingly then he could control the terms. Her body fell back into the waiting arms of the children and they willingly caught her, carrying her towards their master. The path opened up for them, straight ways to the castle and HE could be seen watching from a tower window. A smile crosses his thinning lips and his laughter can be heard echoing throughout the castle. She was as good as his. He began to descend the stairwell to meet them at the door. He counted to 13 and opened it just as a young boy had lifted his fist to knock. “Very nice job my dears. Now if you would just follow me, I will lead you to the room where your duties will be fulfilled.” She lay there still as stone, her mind empty except for pure blackness. She could feel their tiny hands supporting her body, and she hears his voice. Panic rises in her chest, though she shows no outward signs of her fear. She feels no binding cords across her skin though cannot move a muscle. Her heart races though her breathing remains barely existent. As they carry her into the foyer he stops them, and runs his course finger across her satin ivory cheek.
Persephone watches the interchange between herself and her confident and shakes her head slowly knowing that Sitt al-Sirr was torn between both masters and would never be entirely loyal to either.
