DISCLAIMER: this isn't public knowledge. Anybody who hasn't talked to Orchid before about what happens in this story but seems to know everything about it for some reason will be ignored unless you and I have worked out a story idea and I've approved your reasoning.
The six year old had no idea that she was being sold into slavery. She had noticed her parents fighting more than usual, hitting eachother, whispering at night. She knew that the family business was failing, and that they had to go hungry some nights. But she had no idea that she was the solution. Thinking back on it as a woman, Orchid would have consented to being sold if her family had bothered to ask her. It was a good option, a kind gentleman from the mafia had explained to her parents while she sat on her mother's lap and played with her dolly. But she wasn't listening at the time, so when the gentleman from the mafia paid her parents and took her little hand and led her down the crumbling driveway, she didn't understand that she'd never see her family again. "Bye bye!" she had said in Russian and waved. The kind man from the mafia had put her in the backseat of his nice car and the six year old peeked out of the window and watched her parents disappear.
They drove to an airport, and the girl had never been on a plane before, so she was slightly apprehensive, but her submission was easily bought with candy and promises of meeting her new brothers and sisters.
Money was exchanged a second time about an hour after they got off of the plane and little Orchid was led into a normal looking house. She remembers the couch and the television the most. A woman holding a baby boy greeted her in Russian, then in English, Orchid understood both from school. "This is your new home and these are your new brothers and sisters," said the woman, gesturing to the toddlers crawling around on the floor. "Okay," said Orchid.
In the simple house, she was taught to read books about vampires. She learned that vampires were real, that they were a terrible threat, and that the only way to kill one was with sunlight or a crossbow bolt to the heart. The lady who was taking care of her and her three brothers and one sister was a vampire hunter. Vampires are bad, that was lesson number one.
END PART ONE
BEGIN PART TWO: The Vampire Hunters Guild
Orchid's brothers and sister were named Peter, Sakura, Deitrich and Samuel. Orchid was the oldest, and therefore got to tell the others what to do. "Give me the remote," she could say. Or, "It's my turn to play that game." When they played Vampire vs Hunter, she always assigned prissy Sakura as the vampire, which made her angry, because then the other children could gang up on her and stab her with pretend stakes while Orchid laughed.
Another vampire hunter lived in the normal looking house. He was, as Orchid remembers him, a senile old man. He could really get her siblings fired up about killing vampires. He would show them all how it could be done, where a vampire might be found, habits of vampires, why vampires deserve to die, what they do to humans. The children were on the side of the humans, being human themselves, and would cheerfully practice fighting. They all got to go to gymnastics classes. Sakura and Orchid were the best at gymnastics. Sakura was a showoff and Orchid couldn't just let her win.
The senile old man promised everyone that, when they were ready, they would all be sent to live at the Vampire Hunters Guild headquarters, where they would receive assignments. Orchid liked this idea, but she didn't like the senile old man because of his tendency to sneak into her room and touch her inappropriately. He would tell her things, too, about his plans to secretly become a vampire and live in immortality with her as his bride. She didn't want to be his bride, so one day during target practice in the backyard she shot him through the chest with a silver crossbow bolt. She was almost fifteen and didn't need his crap.
I will continue this later, and write about how Orchid's siblings chase her across the globe at Sakura's encouragement. She is branded a traitor.
